Rope-a-dope is a term used in boxing that was popularized by Muhammad Ali in his 1974 Rumble in the Jungle against George Foreman. The technique involves deliberately leaning against the ropes and allowing the opponent to expend energy by throwing punches while the boxer remains in a defensive stance, avoiding the brunt of the punches. The opponent can tire themselves out by throwing heavy punches continuously, which can then create an opportunity for the rope-a-dope boxer to counterattack when the opponent has exhausted their energy reserves. The rope-a-dope technique is considered to be a high-risk, high-reward strategy that requires excellent defensive skills and endurance.
